A new Aberdeen municipal park with six rectangular sports fields, concession building, and restrooms is now in the preliminary stages of construction. The new park is being built on a 32-acre site between two McKee Homes neighborhoods on U.S. 15-501.
Aberdeen town leaders closed a deal in late 2019 to purchase 15 acres with the Ransdell family contributing a 17-acre adjacent parcel to make up the 32-acre total needed for the new Aberdeen municipal park. The town is currently working with community partners and individuals for donation as well as considering other revenue sources such as grants.
According The Pilot newspaper online article about the park, “The recently adopted fiscal year 2020-21 budget includes $250,000 towards improvements with another $125,000 committed next year.”
The first two lighted sports fields in the new park are predicted to open in 2021.
