Buying Comic Books on 63rd StreetBy Gregory Janicke

I began as a comic artist for my high school newspaper. I was in the Chicago Daily News with a mentorship from a political cartoonist who won the Pulitzer Prize. My first paintings were exhibited in school shows. A mural of mine was put up at the Boys and Girls Club. I was featured in a one-man show at Carolina Artist Studio Gallery. At this point, I began my commissions and a number of private sales, featured in charity and personal work. I received a North Carolina Arts Council Grant to continue with my work. I moved overseas to Casablanca and worked on my Fizzik Rules comic, which was featured in Malaysia, Canada and other locations. Additionally, I wrote and illustrated The Shadow Beasts series, which was published through Marshall Cavendish. It reached the #1 series in Singapore. I have done art and cartooning workshops for all ages. I have worked at art walks, public art events and showings. My art has been displayed everywhere from local events, banks, libraries and more. I once worked on a 4-foot by 6-foot painting of my hometown at the time. I worked alongside Kinya Christian for a Black History Month gallery, where my pieces were featured. I have done freelance commercial art as well as children’s books. As a writer and artist, I am still looking to grow and am currently working on a new 12-painting series.

Sponsoring Feed My Starving Children

Every year, millions of children die from preventable causes such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and undernutrition. Hunger causes nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old. We estimate at least 6,200 children die each day from causes related to undernutrition. This is heartbreaking. Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) believes hope starts with food. As a Christian nonprofit, FMSC is dedicated to seeing every child whole in body and spirit. FMSC works with food distribution partners that stay with communities for the long haul, empowering them to move from relief to development. FMSC meals are developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition. Nutrition allows children to grow, thrive and develop to their full potential.
