McKee Homes Intern Program

McKee Homes is excited to welcome the 2021 class of summer interns to the McKee Family! This is our second consecutive year offering the McKee Homes Intern Program to college students looking for real-world work experience within the rapidly expanding homebuilding industry.

Program Purpose

To develop the next generation of home building industry professionals by training and educating top performers about the multiple disciplines involved in the new home construction industry and McKee Homes.

The selected interns will have a unique opportunity to develop and enhance their leadership skills while also learning about specific areas of the business through a McKee Syllabus and from other associates, consultants, and professionals.

We want to create an environment where top interns see a path for career development in the home building industry.

Meet the Interns

We are excited to welcome four interns this summer to the McKee Homes Intern Program!

Continuous Improvement

The McKee Homes Intern Program ties directly into one of our core values, Continuous Improvement, which focuses on believing in clear and respectful communication, that we are lifelong students and coaches, and that we are building a cure for Alzheimer’s.

We believe that this intern program offers students a valuable opportunity to explore their field of study in the real world. Each intern is provided with a mentor along with their manager, to ensure that there are no communication gaps between what is expected of them throughout the program and that they always have someone to ask questions to. Each intern is also expected to register for their regional Walk to End Alzheimer’s, so they can experience our community embrace efforts and give back to not only the Alzheimer’s Association but a charity or organization of their choice through our Associate Community Embrace Program.

McKee Homes Community Embrace Initiatives

McKee Homes is a family-owned business that believes in the power of doing the right thing for not only our customers, trade partners, and employees, but also within communities in which we do business. This is why we are constantly involved in various local and national charities through our Community Embrace Initiatives.

Our Mission Statement

To passionately enrich the quality of life of individuals in our communities by helping the Alzheimer’s Association accomplish their vision, which is, A World Without Alzheimer’s. In addition, we recognize the many needs of the communities we build in and have a passion for helping those who may not be able to help themselves. That is why we partner with other key charitable organizations, including KidsPeace, Fayetteville Urban Ministry, Habitat for Humanity and The Cape Fear Guardian Ad Litem Association.

Community Embrace Initiatives

Within the past few months, our Community Embrace Program has been hard at work with several different initiates throughout the Wilmington, Fayetteville, and Raleigh Areas.

Women’s Build

McKee Homes is proud to be involved in the Fayetteville and Wilmington Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build! Our goal with the Fayetteville Habitat Women’s Build is to build two homes in partnership with local hardworking families and provide access to an affordable mortgage.

women's build

This home will be funded and constructed primarily by women and will provide a female-friendly worksite that empowers women to take leadership roles and learn new skills while building homes, community, and hope, all while providing the opportunity for women to take proactive steps in serving their communities.

Since 1991, Women’s Build volunteers from all walks of life have come together to build stronger, safer communities. There is still time to join the cause and make a donation, the Fayetteville Habitat for Humanity has yet to reach its fundraising goals!

Playhouse Build

Team McKee was honored to support the Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity affordable housing program through the Playhouse Project! unique volunteer opportunity that gives groups and individuals a meaningful, creative, and hands-on day of building playhouses that are then donated to local children.

playhouse build

This great cause not only provides a child with a place to create a world of fun to discover their creativity, but serves the affordable housing needs throughout the Cape Fear region! They might be little houses, but the Playhouse Program makes a huge impact. It’s grown from building 20 playhouses in 2009, to a major operation that donated over 500 playhouses and raised over a million dollars last year!

Don’t forget to check out some of the upcoming Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity initiatives, and see what YOU can do to help this beautiful region by volunteering.

Corn Hole Tournament

Team McKee was excited to participate in the 6th annual Fayetteville Homebuilders Association Corn Hole Tournament! This event was a great opportunity for McKee Homes to grow its network within the city of Fayetteville, all while expanding our Community Embrace efforts.

The Home Builders Association of Fayetteville’s mission is to serve, advocate, and promote the local building and development industries while fostering unity between members, government and the community.

Masked Singer – Wake County HBA

On March 25th, McKee Homes was invited to participate in the annual Masked Singer event, hosted by the Wake County Homebuilders Association! Different groups of HBA members sung their favorite songs, while others tried to guess who is behind each mask.

This fun event was an effort to help the Wake County Homebuilding Association achieve its mission of advocating, educating, and promoting the building industry within the Wake County area.

The Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA) represents and promotes the interests of the residential building industry on issues that affect their ability to provide housing that is affordable for all citizens of Wake County. The association serves as the voice of the residential construction industry at the local, state, and national levels.

Care Clinic – Toast of the Town

We were excited to participate in the 16th Annual “Toast of the Town” Wine and Beer Tasting Fundraiser on May 6 at The Cape Fear Botanical Garden!

The event raises money to support The CARE Clinic which is a private non-profit organization that provides free basic medical care and dental extraction services for eligible uninsured, low-income adults living in Cumberland County and surrounding areas. The CARE Clinic is not funded by the government and relies totally on fundraising events, private and corporate donations, and grants to finance the clinic.

Hammer & Nails Golf Tournament

McKee Homes was honored to participate in the 17th annual 2021 Spring Hammers and Nails Golf Tournament, supporting Hammer & Nails, Inc.! This event was in efforts to help the Hammer & Nails non-profit outreach ministry that works with disadvantaged Stark County homeowners with home & property repairs.

Fayetteville Urban Ministries Golf Tournament

Members of Team McKee are excited to be participating in the 25th Annual Fayetteville Urban Ministry Golf Classic, taking place Saturday, June 12th, 2021 at Gates Four Golf & Country Club. Last year, this event raised over $35,000 in support for our programs in Fayetteville & Cumberland County, and we can’t wait to see what this year’s event can help raise!

Together, We Can End Alzheimer’s

Did you Know?

The McKee Homes Alzheimer’s Mission includes sponsoring four North Carolina Walk’s to End Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This event is held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, with more than 500,000 participants.

Our Why

The McKee family is all too familiar with the impact Alzheimer’s has on those who have the disease as well as their loved ones. In hopes that one day other families may not have to face the heartbreak by Alzheimer’s, the McKee family created the Joe McKee Memorial Alzheimer Fund to remember their beloved father and husband. In addition to supporting efforts such as the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a percentage of every home sale by McKee Homes goes into the Joe McKee fund to support Alzheimer’s research.

McKee Homes Alzheimer’s Mission

The McKee Homes Alzheimer’s Mission statement is to passionately enrich the quality of life of individuals in our communities by helping the Alzheimer’s Association’s accomplish their vision, which is, A World Without Alzheimer’s.

McKee Employees Help Children In Need Through Community Embrace Program

As the year is coming to an end and the Holidays are just around the corner, McKee Homes Community Embrace efforts kick into full gear. As we know, 2020 has been a year of adapting to the new normal and a substantial amount of change. McKee Homes’ focus is not only building homes but giving back to many North Carolina communities.

McKee Homes Community Embrace Program

Throughout the years, McKee Homes has helped support a number of charities including the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and other non-profits. Around the Holidays each year, McKee Homes provides support to the KidsPeace Foster Care Agency through gifts and personalized cards donated by McKee employees.

KidsPeace Foster Care Agency

KidsPeace is a national children’s charity that has been helping kids overcome trauma from family disasters and other crises since 1882. This organization helps thousands of abused, neglected and injured children each day through prevention and outreach programs across the country.

McKee Homes Community Embrace Mission

Part of the McKee Homes Community Embrace mission is to give hope, help and healing to children, families and communities. As in previous years, McKee Homes employees will be donating their time and money to many foster children in desperate need of love and kindness this holiday season. The sweet children at the KidsPeace Foster Care Agency have written their wishes down and hung them on an Angel Tree in the hope that someone will make their wish come true.

Like everything else this year, we have adapted to doing most tasks virtually. This year McKee homes has decided to utilize the KidsPeace Amazon Wish List in order to collect gifts for the Angel Tree. Many of the amazing employees at McKee Homes have picked one or more gifts from the children’s list to purchase. The gifts are sent to the KidsPeace office to be wrapped and delivered to each child.

Enduring Partnership

We are honored to partner with the KidsPeace Foster Care Agency for another year and we can’t wait to add some holiday cheer to the community through our Community Embrace program this year with many more to come.

How McKee Homes Gives Back to North Carolina Communities

McKee Homes gives back to various charities throughout NC, including the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Kids Peace Foster Care Agency, Fayetteville Urban Ministry and Cape Fear Guardian Ad Litem Association, among others. The company is truly known in the industry for its passion to not only build homes but build communities, too.

As part of our dedication to the community, McKee Homes also provides a yearly stipend to each employee to support a cause of their choice. Today, we are highlighting a few committed employees who are making an impact in their very own community, with the financial support of McKee Homes.

We thank our employees for all they do to better the communities around us.

MARK HILL: Builder (President of Parkton Youth Association)

NON-PROFIT/CAUSE:

Parkton Youth Association , a non-profit dedicated to giving children a safe place to have fun and play sports.

WHO DO YOU SERVE AND WHAT DOES THE MONEY GO TOWARDS?

“The activities that we offer build character, friendship and team building—memories they will take throughout their life. Again, thank you Pat and Julie for continuing to make a child’s activity a lifetime event. God bless McKee Homes.

Because of this organization, our 1 through 4th grade cheerleaders just placed first place in the Southeast Region Cheerleading Competition. These kids are truly amazing.”

SHANE MCCLEOD: Area Construction Manager, Southern Pines & Fayetteville, NC

NON-PROFIT/CAUSE:

Carolina Freedom Baseball, an organization based in Fuquay-Varina, NC. The goal of this non-profit is to teach the game properly so that each player will develop the skills and ability to play baseball at a high level. Additionally, the hope is to aid the players in developing a strong foundation in baseball, work ethic, and teamwork that will not only serve them well on the field, but also in life.

WHO DO YOU SERVE AND WHAT DOES THE MONEY GO TOWARDS?

We serve 12 & under boys and were able to outfit the entire team with new helmets.

The idea of this non-profit is to use baseball as a way of teaching young men about life. Baseball is a game of failure and life is too sometimes. We teach them about hard work and how you keep getting up and trying.

I have a son on each team, so this was a cool moment.”

RACHEL MCMORROW: Marketing Coordinator

NON-PROFIT/CAUSE:

The Apex Fun Run for Johnston Charter Academy in Clayton, NC

WHO DO THEY SERVE AND WHAT DID THE MONEY GO TOWARDS?

The Apex Fun Run was a fundraising event to support Johnston Charter Academy. The event encourages children to raise money for a good cause and help them understand the meaning of supporting their school, teachers and fellow classmates.

The organization’s mission:

To collaborate with school PTO/As and faculty to build student leaders through a meaningful, “hassle-free” and financially successful school fun run.

We Believe

  • Every child can change their school, and the world, in a profound way
  • Serving others brings the greatest joy and contributes to the greatest good
  • Learning by doing and exercise are both undervalued and underutilized in fundraising today
  • Encouragement and enthusiasm build others up—we will help build leaders
  • Raising money for your child’s school can also serve as a positive learning experience
  • Many people giving a little reduces the individual burden on the typical givers and donors

DIANA DELPONTE: New Homes Sales Consultant, Wilmington NC

NON-PROFIT/CAUSE:

Coastal Horizons Center, an organization that advocates for healthier lives and safer communities by providing a continuum of quality, professional services for prevention, crisis intervention, sexual assault victims, criminal justice alternatives, mental health and substance use disorder treatment services.

WHO DO YOU SERVE AND WHAT DOES THE MONEY GO TOWARDS?

“The money helps support the annual event, Coastal Duck Derby, which benefits the Open House Youth Shelter & Crisis Intervention Services of Coastal Horizons Center, a 501(c)(3) charity. In addition to meeting the basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter, Open House encourages youths’ personal growth through counseling services, vocational/educational, and life skill building.”
