The recent McKee Homes intern graduation marks the second year of this popular program which benefits both the interns and McKee Homes.
The McKee Homes intern program develops the next generation of home building industry professionals by training and educating top performers about the multiple disciplines involved in the new home construction industry. The selected interns have a unique opportunity to develop their leadership skills and learn how McKee Homes runs as a business.
Our interns learn different aspects of the business through a program called “Deep Dives.” Deep Dives allow them to spend an entire day with a specific department head to learn key departmental functions. In their respective departments, the interns have learning objectives they are to focus on throughout the entirety of the summer program.
Our intern program was started in 2020 with four interns in three departments.
The first year McKee Homes intern graduation produced two new McKee Homes employees. Out of the first four interns, Belen and Drew returned in year two as McKee employees and Tyler returned as a second-year intern, moving from construction to land. All three mentored the new first-year interns in 2021.
With the second McKee Homes intern graduation, it’s clear the McKee Homes Intern Program has been a resounding success for both the interns and McKee Homes. When asked what they liked about the program, many of the interns mentioned that access and interactions with everyone in the company, including the owners, was one of the best aspects of being a McKee intern.
We are proud of all the interns that have worked through the program and increased their knowledge and abilities in various disciplines of new home construction. We are especially pleased with finding two new employees that bring their enthusiasm and new perspectives to Team McKee.
