Multi-Generational Homes For Sale – New Construction

According to a Pew Research Center analysis of census data from 2016, a record 64 million people, or approximately 20% of the U.S. population, lived with multiple generations in the same house.

Reasons:

Recent increases in new home costs such as tariffs, labor shortages, lot development costs, and other factors are driving up the cost of new homes.

The 74 million baby boomers living in the U.S. are getting older and many can no longer afford to live alone or need help from others. Living with family members makes sense in a lot of cases because of lower living expenses and more personal care.

College graduates and Millennials are staying home longer because of the high cost of living.

Multi-generational living is a natural way of life in many cultures and offers support to family members who share everything from meals to chores and many other aspects of their lives.

Types of Homes:

There are many different types of housing that serve as multi-generational homes from multiple structures on the same property to guest suites with kitchens and private entrances in a single home.

One of the most common types of multi-generational homes is a typical single family home with two master bedrooms or converted bonus room over the garage.

Solutions:

Finding a multi-generational home can be a challenge in some areas but more and more builders are starting to offer homes and options that work well for families that have three generations living under the same roof.

Another option is to do a major remodel on an existing home, but depending on the age of the home, the cost may be prohibitive compared to the value of the home. Buying a new home with new systems, fixtures, appliances, roofing and warranty that is set up for multi-generational living may make more sense financially.

McKee Homes offers a dozen floor plans with optional first or second floor guest suites or dual master bedrooms on first and second floor. Six of our multi-generational floor plans offer a second floor guest suite with optional kitchenette and wet bar.

McKee Homes Introduces Two New Single-Story Ranch Floorplans

McKee Homes has just introduced two new single-story ranch floorplans. The Caldwell Classic and the Owen Classic were first built in Summerwind Plantation in Garner, NC as prototypes and have now been added as permanent floor plans to our Classic Collection.

There is a big demand for single-story ranch floorplans from first-time home buyers as well as existing homeowners downsizing from larger homes after children have left the nest.

Single-story ranch floorplans and homes have always been very popular but often hard to find in newer neighborhoods. With the cost of homes and interest rates rising, McKee Homes has introduced these two new floorplans to meet the demand of home shoppers looking for three-bedroom, two-bath homes at around 2,000 sq. ft.

The Caldwell

The 1,910 sq. ft. Caldwell Classic has three bedrooms and two full baths. The main living area includes a formal dining room, large kitchen island, walk-in pantry and mudroom with a bench and cubbies. The master bath has separate shower and garden tub with walk-in closet that leads directly into the laundry room.

There is plenty of convenient storage with a large 70 sq. ft. storage room as you enter the house from the garage, across from the laundry room. Options for the Caldwell include deluxe master bath, covered front porch and rear patio.

The Owen

The 2,061 sq. ft. Owen Classic has three bedrooms and two full baths with an additional room that can be used as a study, den or fourth bedroom.

The Owen has a large kitchen island, walk-in pantry and trey ceiling throughout the main living area that makes the home feel open and spacious. The Master bedroom comes with dual vanities, water closet, large shower, and walk-in closet. A covered porch completes the package of a home loaded with features.

These are both highly functional open single-story ranch floor plans and are a great addition to the McKee Homes Classic Collection.

More Information

For more information about these new single-story ranch floorplans by McKee Homes, please visit our website floorplans page or give us a call at 910-672-7296 to talk with one of our friendly online sales consultants about where these new ranch-style floorplans are being built.

Tankless Water Heaters

How They Work

Tankless water heaters heat water directly without the use of a storage tank. When a hot water tap is turned on, cold water travels through a pipe into the unit. Either a gas burner or an electric element heats the water. As a result, tankless water heaters deliver a constant supply of hot water. You don’t need to wait for a storage tank to fill up with enough hot water. However, a tankless water heater’s output limits the flow rate.

Typically, tankless water heaters provide hot water at a rate of 2–5 gallons (7.6–15.2 liters) per minute. Gas-fired tankless water heaters produce higher flow rates than electric ones. Sometimes, however, even the largest, gas-fired model cannot supply enough hot water for simultaneous, multiple uses in large households. For example, taking a shower and running the dishwasher at the same time can stretch a tankless water heater to its limit. To overcome this problem, you can install two or more tankless water heaters, connected in parallel for simultaneous demands of hot water. You can also install separate tankless water heaters for appliances — such as a clothes washer or dishwater — that use a lot of hot water in your home.

Many homeowners, however, see benefits of a tankless water heater beyond energy savings.

Hot water on-demand

Tankless water heaters are known as demand-type water heaters, they provide hot water only as needed.  They don’t produce the standby energy losses as the standard water heaters so in turn it saves you money! You also never run out of hot water!

Earth-friendly Benefits

Tankless technology allows maximum energy efficiency and reduces your carbon foot print. These heaters also save space with a compact design, last longer and are better for the environment because a rusty tank doesn’t end up in the landfill.
