Heat pumps are pretty neat as they offer an alternative to running your air conditioner. If your home needs moderate heating or cooling a heat pump is a great alternative because it moves heat from a cool space to warm space, which makes the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer. During the heating season, heat pumps move heat from the cool outdoors into your warm house and during the cooling season, heat pumps move heat from your cool house into the warm outdoors. Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps can provide equivalent space conditioning at as little as one quarter of the cost of operating conventional heating or cooling appliances.
On average you save $1,000-$2,000 annually according to energy reports. On top of those savings heat pumps come equipped with filter systems so bacteria spores don’t have an opportunity to settle in your home. Heat pumps are extremely efficient in brand new constructions homes so definitely check out McKee Homes to find your next home with the electric heat pump already installed! Tankless water heaters heat water directly without the use of a storage tank. When a hot water tap is turned on, cold water travels through a pipe into the unit. Either a gas burner or an electric element heats the water. As a result, tankless water heaters deliver a constant supply of hot water. You don’t need to wait for a storage tank to fill up with enough hot water. However, a tankless water heater’s output limits the flow rate.
Typically, tankless water heaters provide hot water at a rate of 2–5 gallons (7.6–15.2 liters) per minute. Gas-fired tankless water heaters produce higher flow rates than electric ones. Sometimes, however, even the largest, gas-fired model cannot supply enough hot water for simultaneous, multiple uses in large households. For example, taking a shower and running the dishwasher at the same time can stretch a tankless water heater to its limit. To overcome this problem, you can install two or more tankless water heaters, connected in parallel for simultaneous demands of hot water. You can also install separate tankless water heaters for appliances — such as a clothes washer or dishwater — that use a lot of hot water in your home.
Many homeowners, however, see benefits of a tankless water heater beyond energy savings.
Hot water on-demand
Tankless water heaters are known as demand-type water heaters, they provide hot water only as needed. They don’t produce the standby energy losses as the standard water heaters so in turn it saves you money! You also never run out of hot water!
Tankless technology allows maximum energy efficiency and reduces your carbon foot print. These heaters also save space with a compact design, last longer and are better for the environment because a rusty tank doesn’t end up in the landfill.

Lets explore the benefits of radiant barrier roof sheathing and how it can help save on your energy bill! It works as a layer of aluminum is placed in an airspace to block heat from transferring between a heat-radiating surface and heat-absorbing surface.
The aluminum foil used in the radiant barrier sheathing stops up to 97% of the radiant heat from passing through to your attic. This is extra beneficial for people who live in the southern part of the US and experience warmer clients. In the heat of the summer having a radiant barrier roof will keep your home up to 30% cooler. This is a perfect addition to having a total energy-efficient home.
Adding this extra step for future cost savings is relatively easy and can be installed at the same time of the regular sheathing for your roof!
What are the benefits of having a radiant barrier roof?
A cooler attic space means less heat moving to the cooler space below the attic.
The hotter it gets the better radiant barriers work.
The reduced attic temperature increases the efficiency of attic ductwork which prolongs the life of your heating and cooling systems because there are fewer cycle times.
In warmer climates your may be able to reduce A/C requirements by up to ½ ton.
Radiant barrier roof sheathing helps to improve comfort in the building interior during the warm summer months and reduces energy costs. Because heat always moves from hot areas to cold areas, radiant barrier sheathing also prevents heat transfer from the warm interior during the cooler winter months.
McKee Homes adds radiant barrier sheathing to all of our roofs on our homes which is just one of the many benefits we provide to all of our home owners! To read more about all of other benefits including being Apple Homekit compatible click here!

You are officially settled in your dream home and you are mapping out your landscaping plans and goals for a beautiful yard and a few pesky little things are in your way, weeds! Here are 3 items you already have in your home to kills weeds, naturally!
Salt. This item is a super common household staple and works on weeds. Take a spray bottle filled with warm water and a good amount of salt (up to ½ cup) and start spraying. This will prevent growth for a long period of time (even permanently) so make sure you target areas such as your driveway, porch steps or any area you are comfortable preventing future growth.
Boiling Water. This is definitely the simplest solution. Bring a pot of water to a hard boil. Once the water has reached its boiling point, pour it directly on the weeds. If the weeds are stronger due to the length of time they have been there you may have to repeat this method over several days.
Bleach. This method is also readily available in most homes. Use the bleach undiluted and pour it directly on the weeds. Using bleach can damage the soil around it and prevent other plants as well as the weeds from growing so keep that in mind as your pour!
Also, a quick powerful household combination includes: Dawn dish detergent, vinegar, and salt in a spray bottle and spray the solution directly on the weeds. Those weeds will be gone in no time!
Using these home remedies can cure your weed problem, save money, and reduce the risks other chemical weed killers contain that are harmful to your skin, animals, and other plants in your yard!

Cost-efficient thermostat temperatures are so important to save you money this summer on your electricity bill! During this time of year with temperatures reaching the high 90s in most areas, thermostat adjustments to keep your home cool and your bill low are necessary. Cooling your home with your air conditioning unit depending on the size, could sky rocket your bill into the high hundreds! Though it is tempting to adjust your thermostat really low during the summer in an effort to cool your home faster, this could actually be counter productive because your unit is working harder and burning more energy. Consistent set temperatures maintain energy output levels and reduces your out-of-pocket cost.
Before you receive your next bill and its causes you to break into a sweat, let me share a couple of cost-efficient thermostat temperature tips below!
If you plan to be away from your home for an extended amount of time during the day (4 hours or more) keep the temperature set at a higher number. Once you arrive back home, adjust the temperature to 78 degrees. Based on your comfort level your thermostat should stay at this temperature throughout the warmer months.
Use your windows at night, turning off the A/C unit completely which allows the breeze to keep you cool while you are sleep. Also, utilize ceiling fans while you are in the room and then turn them off once you leave. It is unnecessary to leave ceiling fans on when you are no longer in the room as the fans do not keep the room itself cooler but cools the people who are in it.
According to Energy.gov for every degree higher you set your thermostat over 78 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer you could save six-eight percent off your energy bill per degree! These savings can be used to entertain your family and friends grilling in your backyard! Or a fun-filled water day at the local pool or water park! Making these small adjustments could add up significantly over time. Comment on this post and let me know if these tips would work for you! Also check out all of our available homes today!

Buying a home for the first time is not only the smart thing to do in 2017 but it’s an important part of what most would consider the “American dream”! Let’s setup the scenario for a second. We are on the cusp of the end of the first quarter of the year already! We have officially elected a new President and the economy appears to have rebounded. You’re finally working a job that doesn’t require a Ramen noodle lifestyle only (love Ramen by the way). Your apartment is feeling cramped and you are looking for that next big purchase! With the right financial preparation and tools, purchasing a home can be the beginning of long-term wealth building, with your mortgage payment possibly lower than what you are currently paying for rent. With a fixed-rate mortgage, your payment will not go up which isn’t true with rent which seems to go up a little each year.
Check out the top 3 reasons to become a first time home buyer in 2017!
1. Mortgage Rates are still very good
Currently mortgage rates are still sitting at about 4%. Although they are not as low as they have been in previous months they are still historically low with rates going up to as high as 10% in 2006. Locking yourself into a low rate now would definitely be beneficial!
2. Down payments are low
Currently down payments are ranging from 1%-3% which is obtainable on most budgets. There are even first time home buyer credits that can assist you with your down payment or take care of your down payment completely. FHA, VA and USDA loans often have no-money-down options as well.
3. Decorate your home exactly the way you want!
Owning your home gives you the flexibility of decorating however you want. Maybe making that one room entirely purple like you imagined as a kid, or a complete gallery wall of family photos! Buying your own home allows you that flexibility which renting does not.
These are just the top 3 reasons to become a first time home buyer in 2017 but there are many more. To find the perfect neighborhood and view move-in ready homes, please visit our Find A Home web page.
